Sound of Music
On our way to Salzburg we stopped briefly in Mondsee to visit the Basilica Mondsee where wedding scene of SOM was filmed. It was such a modern neighborhood, the church seemed almost out of place. The actual altar, where the wedding took place, is about 20 steps up from the congregation is seated; this seemed somewhat unusual in Gothic architecture style.

This is the church where Maria gets married in the Sound of Music. It is the basilica in Mondsee. I walked down the aisle remembering the scene in the movie…in my head I could hear the nuns singing – how do you solve a problem like Maria…
OMG! I’m HERE! The first site in Mirabell Gardens featured in the movie The Sound of Music is the Pegasus Fountain. The Von Trapp kids and Maria (Julie Andrews) walk along the edge of the fountain singing Do Re Mi before jumping off in cinematic choreography. The Pegasus Fountain is located directly at the bottom of the Musical Steps at the north end of Mirabell Garden

I’m going into the garden where in the movie, the kids and Maria are singing and moving on the steps with their backs to the garden flowers – to be in the same spot where the iconic movie was filmed; it was a moving experience.
The kids leap and skip as they sing gleefully along with Maria. To get to the hedge tunnel from Pegasus Fountain head south toward the south entrance to the garden. Just to the side of the tree-lined path, you’ll find the famous tunnel where the Von Trapps ran through carefree
